Marissa Neiman Burgo, WHNP-BC
Board Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified CBT-I Clinician with advanced training at Stanford’s Sleep Health and Insomnia Program. My training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Nonviolent Communication shapes how I listen and understand the nervous system. Sleep is shaped by your body, your history and your life. That whole picture is the context I work from.
My clients are women whose sleep has become effortful. Insomnia often arrives with a hormonal transition; pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause — and gets written off as normal for that stage. It can also follow a loss, a diagnosis, sustained stress, or have no clear cause. However you arrived here, suffering is never normal. Many women I work with have already tried sleep hygiene, sleep medications, and trying their hardest to relax. None of it worked, and not for lack of effort. CBT-I works on the patterns that keep insomnia going — sleep schedules, what happens in and around bed, and what keeps your nervous system on high alert.
Many women feel ashamed of struggling with something that is supposed to be automatic. It isn’t a failure of effort. Sleep can start feeling like something you trust again. Let’s talk.
